Still haven’t upgraded to Windows 10? Not convinced it’s worth the effort? Well, we are here to share ten reasons why you should take the plunge and start using Windows 10.
From speed and security to improved apps and browser, Windows 10 is far superior to Windows 8 and other older operating systems. Plus, the upgrade is free!
So, without further ado, here are ten reasons to upgrade to Windows 10.
1. Improved speed
Windows 10 delivers one of the most significant performance boosts of any operating system update: a much faster start-up. If you’re sick and tired of waiting minutes for your computer to boot up, switching to Windows 10 should improve things.
Another speed boost comes from DirectX 12, the new 3D engine. This improvement will mainly affect gamers and developers.
You’ve met Siri. You know Google Now. It’s time to get friendly with Cortana. Cortana allows you to control your tech hands-free by talking. Say commands such as “Cortana, play music,” or “take a note.”
You can also customise Cortana (or disable the feature entirely) to make the most of this new technology.
3. The Start menu
Windows 8 saw the start menu disappear. Well, it’s back, and this time, it has been completely reimagined. Microsoft has made the Windows 10 Start menu tile-based, allowing it to be compatible with touchscreen devices.
4. The app store
If you are still using Windows 7, you don’t have access to the app store. With Windows 10, you can find and download a whole range of applications from one place. From games and weather apps, to word processors and organisation software, the app store has it all.
What’s more, Windows 10 comes with far more powerful built-apps, including Videos, Photos, Music, People, Mail, Calendar, and Maps.
5. Action Centre
You know those super handy pop-up notifications on your smartphone that alert you of messages, breaking news, and updates? Now these are available on your PC.
The Action Centre shows all of your new emails, messages, and more in one place. You’ll even find birthday reminders, upcoming meetings, and other important information.
These days, the majority of the screens in your life are touch: your phone, tablet, and even your laptop. If you are using a touchscreen computer without Windows 10, you are seriously missing out. To make full use of this convenient functionality, upgrade your operating system.
7. Microsoft Edge
No more Microsoft Explore. The new Microsoft Edge browser used by Windows 10 is far superior. Think improved compatibility, speed, and a ton of excellent features (such as webpage mark-up and reading mode).
Ensuring your computer’s software is fully up-to-date is key to securing your device. Upgrading your operating system is no different. Windows 10 comes with a new Secure Boost feature, which is incredibly robust. Other security improvements include the introduction of Windows Hello, Microsoft Passport, and Device Guard.
9. The Xbox app
Are you a gamer? If so, you’ll enjoy the integration of Xbox and Windows 10. The Xbox app allows you to keep up with your achievements and friends, and even play multiplayer games from your Xbox on your PC.
10. Virtual desktops
For a long time, some Mac users have used ‘virtual desktops’ to switch between several ‘desktops.’ Now, this functionality is available on Windows – and it’s inbuilt and super simple to use.
